In light of several recent wildfires in both BC and Alberta, the Kamloops Art Gallery is opening its door, for free, to evacuees.
Free admission is being provided to fire evacuees and anyone affected by wildfires and smoke.
That includes people forced to flee their homes due to the Shetland Creek wildfire between Spences Bridge and Ashcroft, people who evacuated Jasper Monday night and anyone who has evacuated due to a wildfire burning near Barkerville east of Quesnel.
“Recognizing the stress and uncertainty faced by those displaced by the wildfires, the KAG aims to provide a safe space where individuals and families can find comfort, inspiration, and a brief escape from the current circumstances,” says Gallery officials in a news release.
People can get relief from the heat, browse artwork or sit and relax with reading materials.
The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and from 10 am to 8 pm on Thursday.
It is located at 465 Victoria Street in the heart of downtown Kamloops.
