Four Paws Food Bank is best known for the extensive work its volunteers did this summer to care for pets of evacuees during the wildfire crisis. Now, the local non-profit has partnered with Kamloops Heritage Railway to make Christmas a little brighter for our four-legged friends.
When the Spirit of Christmas railtours hit the tracks this December, Kamloops Heritage Railway will also be collecting pet necessities during two of the departures (December 10th and December 17th).
Some of the pets evacuated during the wildfire crisis will also be there to greet passengers. Four Paws president Bonnie McBride said donations of pet food and funds will be gratefully accepted.
Kamloops Heritage Railway will also be presenting Four Paws with a cheque after collecting donations from passengers throughout the summer railtours, with the intention of contributing to wildfire relief.
“Before we suspended our operations due to the smoke we collected almost $2,000 dollars, and I am thrilled to offer the money to Four Paws to continue to help animals in the wildfire zone,” said manager of railtour operations Rosanne Nelson.
Kamloops Heritage Railway is also collecting donations for Out of the Cold during the remaining five Christmas railtours. Donations of gloves, socks and cash will be collected from passengers on December 8th, 9th, 15th, 16th and 18th.
Out of the Cold is a twice-a-week winter shelter program that provides a bed and two meals to those without a home and relies solely on donations.
Tickets for KHR’s Spirit of Christmas railtours are now on sale and available online. The tour is a “whimsical one-hour ride through the wintry Kamloops night” celebrating the “magic of an old-fashioned Christmas.”
