Kamloops RCMP investigating vehicle fire, separate single-vehicle crash

The Kamloops RCMP responded to 330 calls for this service this weekend.

One of those calls involved a vehicle fire on Sunday west of the city.

On Feb. 2, around 6 am, the RCMP were called to a pullout on Highway 5 near Sugarload Overpass where a white 2018 Porsche Macan was found engulfed in flames.

According to a news release highlighting a few weekend reports, no one was in or near the vehicle fire.

Police said the vehicle was allegedly stolen after it was parked overnight near Parkcrest Avenue and Kamwood Place.

Anyone who has any information about this report is asked to call the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment at (250) 314-1800 and refer to file 2025-3061.

Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, spokesperson for the detachment highlighted a second case, which involved a single-vehicle collision near Savona on Saturday.

Mounties were called to the incident around 1 pm where a driver reportedly lost control of his truck, crossed the oncoming lanes of traffic and went over a 20-30 foot embankment.

The sole occupant of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries after speaking to police.

Anyone who might have witnessed the crash and hasn’t spoken to police yet is encouraged to contact the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment at (250) 314-1800 and refer to file 2025-2992.

A third case involved a weapons report.

On Saturday evening, around 5 pm, RCMP officers were called to Mount Paul Way near where the Red Bridge is taped off for a report of a man yelling for someone to call 911.

In the news release, Cpl. Evelyn said responding officers were told the man was saying he was being chased by someone with a dog and a gun.

Officers located the man, who appeared to be intoxicated by drugs and continued changing his story.

The RCMP officers determined the allegation wasn’t true and arrested the man so he could sober up in the cells.
