(UPDATE: Mar. 20 @ 2:03 pm) – The Kamloops RCMP said the large police presence on the North Shore on Wednesday ended with three people being apprehended and taken to the hospital.
Around 2:15 pm, officers were called to the 900-block of Singh Street for a report of a youth who was armed and had barricaded themselves inside their home.
The youth was experiencing a mental health crisis, the RCMP said in a news release.
While police responded, the detachment received a second report involving an adult with a firearm on the 2000-block of Rosewood Avenue.
Police advised residents to avoid both areas as they worked to resolve the issue.
“A crisis negotiator and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT) were called to assist the frontline officers as they faced two high-risk situations simultaneously,” said Superintendent Jeff Pelley, the Kamloops RCMP Detachment’s Officer in Charge.
Around 5 pm, the incident on Rosewood Avenue was resolved and several firearms were seized. The man was apprehended under the Mental Health Act.
The incident on Singh Street was not resolved until about 7:30 pm, police said.
The youth was also apprehended under the MHA and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Additionally, a third occurrence was reported at McDonald Park around 4 pm and involved a second youth being apprehended under the MHA.

(UPDATE: Mar. 20 @ 9:03 am) – In an email sent Wednesday evening, the Kamloops RCMP said they had cleared the 2000-block of Rosewood Avenue around 5:30 pm after responding to a mental health crisis.
As of Thursday morning, no information has been provided about the incident on the 900-block of Singh Street.
Police said they had to call in the Southeast District Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services for the Singh Street response.

(Original story: Mar. 19 @ 4:17 pm) – Kamloops residents are being told to avoid two areas on the North Shore as the RCMP respond to two separate incidents.
In a news release issued shortly after 4 pm, the police said officers were responding to two different calls involving mental health crises.
People are being told to avoid the 900-block of Singh Street and the 2000-block of Rosewood Avenue.
No other information was released.
