A Kamloops business owner is officially moving up in the province.
According to a release from the BC Chamber of Commerce, the River City's Aleece Laird was welcomed as the organization's new Board Chair. The announcement was made official during the Chambre's 68th annual AGM & Conference on Friday.
Laird replaces outgoing Chair Kristine Simpson, who hailed from the Lower Mainland.
"As a small business owner, I’ve always recognized the benefits of being involved in my local Chamber," said Laird. "It’s nice to know you have someone in your corner. With 125 chambers of commerce and boards of trade making up the BC Chamber of Commerce, the collective power of this network that represents 36,000 businesses in every region of our province is remarkable.”
Laird spent eight years at the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce, holding the position of President in 2014.
“Leadership will be paramount as we move through the anticipated challenges in the months, and possibly years ahead, due to the COVID-19 pandemic—and the BC Chamber Network is positioned to help guide BC businesses out of this crisis and toward recovery because we listen to the voice of business and take that collective voice to government."
"Our network has the collective ability to move proverbial mountains when it comes to advocacy work, policy development, and providing value for members. I’m honoured to be trusted with this critical role."
