Friday is the one-year anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Kamloops Stand with Ukraine group is inviting the public to gatherings at TRU and city hall.
The group, which is raising awareness of the war, is inviting the community to an event in front of the university's Campus Activity Centre on Friday at noon.
One of the organizers, Oleksandr Kondrashov, says there will be speeches of solidarity from members of the community.
"We are also looking for TRU community members willing to speak at the gathering and share their statements of solidarity with people of Ukraine who, for the last 365 days, have protected their lands and world safety from Russian terror," says Kondrashov.
Anyone is invited to say a few words, just be sure to email Kondrashov at [email protected].
Later in the afternoon, the group will also be gathering near city hall at 3:30 pm.
Everyone is welcome to join and encouraged to bring Ukrainian flags and wear blue and yellow.
In addition, there will be a workshop to make Ukrainian paper birds, a special symbol to the Ukrainian community, on Thursday at 4:30 pm at the Kamloops United Church.
If you are unable to attend any of the events, there will also be a vigil hosted on Zoom at 7 pm.
