A Kamloops family experienced a scary invasion of privacy this past weekend when their house was robbed while they slept inside.
The RCMP was called to the home on Sydney Avenue around 6:30 am on Saturday when the family woke up and realized what had happened.
“The homeowner said that while his family was sleeping, a suspect was able to gain entry to their home through an unlocked basement door,” explained an RCMP release.
“Once inside, the suspect quietly stole several valuable items, vehicle keys and ate food from the refrigerator before departing the residence in the family vehicle.”
As police investigated the break and enter, they received a report shortly before 1 pm about a suspicious vehicle on Beach Avenue with two men inside who appeared to be unconscious.
Officers rushed to the scene and found the family’s stolen vehicle with two people inside, who the police say had appeared to be using drugs and had fallen asleep.
After paramedics treated the men, one of them was arrested for possession of stolen property obtained by a crime.
The 55-year-old Kamloops man was released on an undertaking for a court appearance at a later date.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
