Kamloops man arrested after allegedly striking cyclist with a rock near the Halston Bridge

A weapons investigation led to the arrest of a Kamloops man on Monday afternoon.

Police were in the area near the Halston Bridge and Schubert Drive for a wellbeing request.

A release says they witnessed a cyclist get struck in the head with what appeared to be a rock as she rode under the bridge. The woman was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was immediately arrested under the bridge deck for assault with a weapon, says Cpl. Crystal Evelyn.

He was held in the cells as officers conducted the investigation, however, he was later released with conditions and a court date.

Charges are anticipated.
