(UPDATE: June 25 @ 7:20 a.m.) - A police situation in Kamloops ended in the best possible way on Sunday night.
The man who barricaded himself in his residence on Schubert Drive, threatening violence if officers entered, left the home safely around 9 p.m.
Kamloops RCMP initially responded to the scene around 11:45 a.m.
After lengthy discussions with a police negotiator, the man peacefully exited the home and was taken to a local medical facility for observation.
(Original story: June 24 @ 6:50 p.m.) - Kamloops RCMP and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team are currently involved in negotiations with a man who has barricaded himself inside his residence on the 1200 block of Schubert Drive.
At 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, Kamloops RCMP received a report of a man in mental distress.
When police arrived on scene, the man refused assistance and threatened officers with violence if they attempted to enter his residence, reports Kamloops RCMP.
A police negotiator has made contact with the man and is currently in conversation with the distressed male.
No nearby residences in the neighbourhood have been evacuated at this time but police will maintain a perimeter around the man’s home to ensure the safety of neighbouring homes until the issue has been resolved.
It is unknown if the distressed man has any weapons with him.
