The Kamloops RCMP are celebrating a special birthday at the detachment.
Police Dog Neeka is celebrating her fifth birthday and fourth year with the Kamloops RCMP.
Nekka was born on Jan. 9, 2020 and joined the Kamloops RCMP in late 2021 after graduating from the Police Dog Service Training Centre in Innisfail, Alberta.
Neeka, who police say is well-known for her quiet and calm demeanour, is also a member of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team.
It's already been a busy year for Neeka and her handler who have been called out to more than 100 calls for the ERT already.
“She’s busy and easy to get along with,” said Neeka’s handler, Corporal Stephen Prior of the Police Dog Service (PDS) Unit.
“She’s been extra busy trying to keep the people of Kamloops safe.”
During her last week as a four-year-old, Neeka helped the Crime Reduction Team with the arrest of two suspects in a stolen vehicle investigation, which was highlighted in the Kamloops RCMP’s weekend report.
Five-year-old Neek and Cpl. Prior also helped track down a bicycle-riding property thief in Brock and located an assault suspect who was taken into custody.
How will Neeka be celebrating her big day?
The RCMP say she will be enjoying a day of relaxation and her favourite treat: birthday bagels with cream cheese.
