The Kamloops and Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP are warning the community about a text message scam that has been circulating recently.
On Thursday and Friday, the detachment received several reports from residents reporting they had received a text message saying the RCMP were unable to deliver court documents with a link provided to click to reschedule.
In a news release issued Friday afternoon, the police say the text message includes the RCMP and Government of Canada logo.

The RCMP are now investigating the matter.
Cpl. Dana Napier said anyone who receives text messages or email asking to reschedule the delivery of documents should contact the RCMP to check if it is a valid request.
Cpl. Napir strongly encourages people not to click the link in the fraudulent text message.
“These texts can appear very legitimate, however, the Kamloops RCMP are reminding residents to be suspicious of text messages or emails of this nature,” she said in the news release.
Kamloops residents are reminded that if they are ever the victim of a scam to contact the RCMP detachment at (250) 828-3000 to report the incident immediately.
Scam and fraud victims are also urged to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
