Kamloops speed skaters qualify for Canadian Youth Long Track Championships

Eight members of the Kamloops Long Blades competed at the BC Long Track Championships (BCLT) in Fort St. John this past weekend, and five of them qualified for the Canadian Youth Long Track Championships.

Meena Litt, Kayleigh Roberts, Jacob Beesley, Jared Roberts and Keidis Corrigan will all be heading back to Fort St. John for the tournament, which will take place Feb. 4-5.

At BCLT, several medals were earned by the Long Blades team.

Caleb Van der Merwe won a silver medal in the neo junior male category, Meena Litt won a gold medal in the youth 13-year-old female division, and Keidis Corrigan won a bronze medal in the 12-year-old male division.

In the 13-year-old male division, Jacob Beesley won a bronze medal and Jared Roberts finished in fourth place.

Kayleigh Roberts earned a gold medal for the 11-year-old female division.

In the pre-youth category, Clara Beggs finished in fourth place overall, while Zane Beggs, skating in his first speed skating competition ever, also finished in fourth place in his division.

The Kamloops Long Blades team will be competing at the Canada Cup #3 in Winnipeg Jan. 27-29.
