The Kamloops RCMP responded to around 355 calls for service last weekend, from Friday morning until Monday morning.
As always, Cpl. Crystal Evelyn outlined some of the more notable calls for service that came into the detachment in that timeframe.
Vehicles, tools and other items were stolen from a commercial location in the 800 block of Columbia Street West early Friday morning. Officers responded to the scene of the overnight break-in around 6:25 am. A Ford Explorer and Ford Ranger that were stolen were recovered later that morning and examined by the Forensic Identification Service Unit. Any witnesses to the break-in are asked to call the detachment.
Police responded to a report of five or six people fighting in front of a store in the 600 block of Seymour Street on Friday afternoon. When officers arrived, they arrested a man who allegedly assaulted two people after being confronted for urinating in front of a woman and child. He was held in cells until sober and released with a court date and conditions. Charges are anticipated.
While patrolling the 600 block of Seymour Street around 1 am on Saturday, an officer discovered an unconscious man in a parking lot. After unsuccessfully trying to wake him, paramedics were called and they administered two doses of naloxone. The man’s breathing returned to normal and he regained consciousness, but he refused to go to the hospital and left on foot.
One person was hospitalized following a multi-vehicle collision on Westsyde Road. Police were called to the scene between McQueen Drive and Grasslands Boulevard around 3:55 pm on Saturday. Three vehicles had collided and were blocking the roadway. A dog in one of the vehicles was taken into the care of firefighters and a veterinarian was called to assist.
Police are looking for witnesses and information related to a vehicle crashing into a fire hydrant and fleeing the scene. It happened around 1:50 am on Sunday in the 700 block of Fraser Street. A newer, silver four-door sedan crashed into a yard and struck a fire hydrant, which resulted in water pouring into the yard and home. Several people described as “young,” likely in their teens or twenties, were seen getting back into the car before it drove away. The vehicle is believed to have front-end damage and police are investigating.
Around 7:15 pm on Sunday, police were called to the 700 block of Tranquille Road where an employee had been assaulted with bear spray after asking a man to leave a store. The suspect is described as a Caucasian man wearing brown pants and a black Reebok hoodie.
One man was arrested and another was taken to hospital after an assault in the 200 block of Chancellor Drive on Sunday night. Officers were called to the residence around 7:40 pm after learning that two people had been fighting with “blunt force objects.” The men were known to each other, police said. The accused was released from jail once sober with conditions and a court date.
