Man dies in HWY 1 collision near Kamloops on Friday

A man from the Cariboo region died in a vehicle collision in the Kamloops area on Friday.

On August 11th at 4:26 p.m., a man driving a Ford passenger car was heading east when he crossed over the centre line and collided head on with the driver of a west bound Mazda passenger car.

The man in the Ford passenger was alone in the vehicle and was declared deceased at the scene.

The male driver of the Mazda was also alone and was airlifted to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

The driver of the Mazda is from Savona.

Kamloops RCMP, Central Interior Traffic Services, BC Ambulance, Kamloops Fire Rescue, Savona Fire Department and Savona First Responders all attended the scene of the collision on the Trans Canada Highway in Savona.

A collision re-constructionist was onsite to assist with the investigation. The investigation has been handed over to the BC Coroners and other units are assisting with the process to determine what caused the Ford passenger car to cross the center line and collide with the Mazda.

A portion of Highway 1 was closed on Friday evening after the collision occurred and re-opened a few hours later, at about 9:00 p.m.
