Planned burn happening northeast of Sun Peaks tomorrow

The BC Wildfire Service is partnering with Sun Peak Resort LLP to do a moderate sized planned burn on Thursday.

Starting on Oct. 3, the two agencies will be burning eight piles of woody debris as a part of a wildfire risk reduction project.

According to a news release issued Wednesday afternoon, the burn is happening at Tod Mountain, which is about four kilometres north east of Sun Peaks.

Smoke may be visible from Sun Peaks.

The BCWS expects the project to be wrapped up by end of day Thursday.

“Piles will be extinguished prior to crews leaving the site for the day,” the BCWS said.

However, the burning will only happen if conditions are favourable.
