Remembrance Day ceremonies are once again impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic this year.
The Royal Canadian Legion in Kamloops, City of Kamloops and ANAVETS Unit 290 have decided to host a small-scale ceremony again this year.
There will be a limited event at the Battle Street Cenotaph for invited guests only.
Due to the current provincial health orders, only 100 people will be invited and allowed to be a part of the official ceremony.
There will also be a plane “Fly-Past” just after 11 am.
No public gatherings will take place this year and there will be no parade or large groups of military, first responders or cadets.
“As the Keepers of Remembrance, the Royal Canadian Legion regrets having to exclude anyone from being part of the ceremony,” explains the media release.
“We can only hope this will be the last time we have to be restricted in this way.”
People can tune into the Kamloops Legion (Branch 52) Facebook page for a live stream of the event – more details will be released closer to Nov. 11.
The veterans-only ceremony will look the same as in the past, with a mounting of the Cenotaph Guard, marching on the Colours, VIP presentations of wreaths, prayers, and the singing of our National Anthem.
However, residents of Kamloops can still honour all past and present veterans by purchasing a poppy or a wreath for Legion members to lay at the private event.
Proceeds and donations from the annual poppy campaign will go to programs that support veterans and their families, you can call 250-374-0623 to get in contact with the Kamloops legion branch.
