Thompson Rivers University has received a donation to support their mobile health-care training unit.
On Wednesday, the university announced they had received a financial boost of $200,000 from TD Bank Group for the health care simulation lab.
The mobile unit gives TRU health care students living in rural communities access to in-person training.
“A shortage of nurses and health-care providers means people — especially those living in rural areas — are not getting the care they require,” said Rani Srivastava, dean of Nursing at TRU, in a news release.
“Thanks to TD’s support, our Mobile Health Care Simulation Lab can be part of the solution to develop capacity within communities.”
In addition to virtual classes, the unit gives students living in rural areas more opportunities to complete their practicum in healthcare.
Students in any TRU nursing and health program have access to the facility, says the statement.
The university says the mobile health care unit may be used for other purposes including a mobile vaccination clinic for TRU’s medical laboratory assistant program.
