Byron and Cameron Jones are the owners of BGJ Construction Ltd., operating as Jones Brothers Construction, a family-owned business that does residential and commercial foundations and framing, renovations and project management.
Born and raised in the Kamloops area, Byron and Cameron attended Thompson Rivers University, completing the carpentry program and receiving their red seal certification, Byron in 2011 and Cameron in 2017.
In addition to their construction careers, both Byron and Cameron are active members of the Rocky Mountain Rangers reserves in Kamloops.
Sergeant Byron Jones joined the Army in 2000 and has served overseas on a peacekeeping mission in Bosnia. Corporal Cameron Jones joined in 2013. When designing the logo for Jones Brothers Construction, the siblings honour their military background by including the three chevron badges of private, corporal and sergeant.
Cameron, who started in the industry a couple years after Byron, began his apprenticeship working alongside Byron, and they have enjoyed working as a team. When their previous employer shut down at the beginning of the COVID pandemic, they decided to pull the trigger and start their own construction company “It was a matter of just diving in,” says Byron. “Having worked in the industry for several years, first as apprentice carpenter and working my way up to a project manager, I have developed a strong knowledge of the building process and made connections throughout the community.”
Although their own company is relatively new, the brothers have been staying busy with a variety of projects from home and business renovations to a custom-built home, from foundation to framing, in Tobiano. “We’re definitely client-driven,” says Cameron. “It’s all about helping the clients achieve their vision.”
So far, the brothers are growing their business via the word of mouth of satisfied customers, family and friends. “Our calendar is filling up and we’re booking ahead now, some jobs as far away out as this summer,” says Byron.
