There’s a new man in charge of the Kamloops Blazers.
Shaun Clouston, who spent the past 16 seasons with the Medicine Hat Tigers, was named the Blazers’ new head coach today.
GM Matt Bardsley also announced that Darryl Sydor would join the staff as an associate coach on a full-time basis.
“We are excited about the dynamic that Shaun and Darryl along with the rest of our staff can bring that will help provide team success while enabling the players to maximize their potential individually,” said Bardsley.
Bardsley praised Clouston’s WHL experience and his great understanding of this generation of players.
After being an associate coach for the Tigers between 2003 and 2010, which included a pair of WHL championships, Clouston became the team’s head coach before the 2010-11 season.
He spent the next eight years in that role, amassing 391 win in the WHL, which is the most in Tigers’ history and the third most amongst active WHL coaches.
“It is a tremendous honour to join the Kamloops Blazers organization,“ said Clouston.
“I am excited to meet our players and eager to begin working alongside Matt, Darryl and our entire staff in creating a successful team both on the ice and in the community.”
Sydor, who played 1,291 career NHL games, stepped behind that Blazers’ bench as an assistant coach part way through last season.
