If residents thought they wouldn't be seeing much of the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association CAP Team this summer, they'd be wrong.
Despite much fewer events planned this summer in the River City, KCBIA Executive Director Carl DeSantis expects the Customer Care and Patrol team to be busy. Usually there to help incoming tourists, the CAP Team will see a role change in the coming months.
"Lot fewer tourists and events won't be on our plate either," said DeSantis. "However, there are many things that we can still do to engage the business community and respond to vulnerable populations."
DeSantis explained that even during a pandemic the CAP Team would be adding six new members. They are expected to increase patrols and keep a watchful eye out in the community.
"I see enhanced support going that way, whether it be the back alley patrols, the parks throughout the downtown community to respond to, and provide necessary supports for that particularly community."
The team will also be helping businesses with marketing and communication support.
"One of the responsibilities that we're looking to introduce to the CAP Team is marketing and communications support for Samantha. And again, coming out of the pandemic and as we transition from phase two to hopefully phase three, four in the next several months, that's going to be an incredibly important responsibility for us to again, showcase downtown and get people back down here."
