School District 73 Superintendent Alison Sidow had to release a message of safety today after word got out that two students threatened a teacher at a local school.
Sidow emailed parents stating nothing was more important than student safety and that parents have a right to feel uneasy after the threats.
"Nothing is more important than keeping our students and schools safe, and I understand some of you may be feeling a little uneasy after hearing about a recent event involving threats to a school," wrote Sidow. "Please be assured that the incident has been managed and our schools are safe."
"We have established protocols in place with community partners including the RCMP, and in this case, these protocols worked well to keep our schools safe."
In the email, Sidow mentioned the incident was concerning, but it was also an opportunity to chat with children about using social media platforms like Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram. These are the most common areas where the more private side of a youth’s life is manifested and publicized to their peers.
