Kamloops saw fewer travellers through the airport in 2017 compared to the previous year.
Despite bouncing back from losses suffered during the third quarter and B.C.’s devastating wildfires, the Kamloops Airport finished slightly below 2016’s numbers. There were 2.5% fewer travellers through YKA — 314,364 in 2017 versus 322,339 in 2016.
Kamloops Airport managing director Heather McCarley said passenger numbers rebounded in quarter four of 2017 following the worst fire season on record in B.C.
Flights in quarter three were most affected by obsuring wildfire smoke, McCarley said, with a reduction in July, August and September compared to 2016.
By comparison, quarter four passengers were up 4.9% over 2016. McCarley said there was significant activity through November and December, with approximately 5,100 additional passengers during those months compared to the same time in 2016.
