Two new cases of Norovirus reported at Royal Inland Hospital

Though it looks like it's almost over, two new cases of norovirus have been reported at Royal Inland Hospital.

According to Interior Health Spokesman Brad Buie, the gastrointestinal outbreak that has plagued 5North continues.

"The status as of yesterday afternoon, I can tell you, and I don't have reason to think its changed, is that at Royal Inland Hospital in 5North, the outbreak continues," said Buie.

Buie adds that Wednesday saw two more cases of norovirus arise in the unit, though there hasn't been any since then.

"It is norovirus, we had a couple new cases on February 13th... No new staff cases and no new cases yesterday, so what that means is the outbreak should be over February 17th, as long as there are no new cases."

The norovirus originally infected five total units in the hospital and close to 80 different patients.

Buie expects the outbreak to end by February 17th.
