Woman arrested in Kamloops after allegedly attempting to snatch purse, phone

A Kamloops woman has a court date and conditions after she allegedly tried to rob another woman of her purse and phone on Monday, May 29.

At approximately 2:35 pm, Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to the 700-block of Tranquille Road where a woman was allegedly stopped by a stranger who demanded her phone and purse, then attempted to physically take them from her.

The victim was able to call police before the suspect took her phone away.

“A man in the area retrieved the victim’s phone from the suspect and returned it to its proper owner,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, the Kamloops RCMP spokesperson.

“Shortly after, a woman matching the suspect’s description was located by police, arrested for robbery, and taken to cells as part of the investigation.”

The suspect was later released with conditions and a court date.

Charge recommendations are anticipated as part of the assessment and approval process.
