A look back at KelownaNow’s April Fools jokes over the last 3 years

Like many, we’ve chosen not to do an April Fools’ Day joke this year.

It’s unfortunate, because we’ve had a blast writing three ridiculous stories over the past three years that have all produced a lot of laughs and plenty of engagement.

While the world certainly needs reasons to laugh right now, we don’t think it’s the right time to be posting “fake news,” even on April 1, as there’s already so much uncertainty out there.

However, we can try to make you laugh by sharing our stories from the last three years, which all suggested some pretty major changes in Kelowna.

In 2017, we announced that Kelowna had ditched all thought of a second bridge crossing in favour of a skytrain from Penticton to Vernon.

In 2018, we announced that the city’s iconic Sails monument was to be moved, potentially into the middle of the lake, to make room for a new high-end waterfront bistro.

And finally, last year, we announced that Mushroom Beach was to become a nude beach, while maintaining its status as a dog beach, making it the first beach in Canada to be both.
