A documentary team based in Kelowna has completed a film about accessible sailing in the city.
It will air as an episode of Accessible Media Inc’s show Our Community.
The title will be “The Joy of Sailing”.
Ascent Films Inc recorded the 30-minute documentary with members of Adaptive Sailing Association Kelowna (which was formerly called Disabled Sailing Association).
It will be screened – for free – by the association at the Kelowna Yacht Club at 5.30 pm on July 18, with everyone welcome to attend.
At the same time, it will be broadcast by AMI-tv.
“We were excited about the opportunity to produce this program, as it features a great local organization that gives people with disabilities the opportunity to sail, enjoy the beautiful lake we have here, and do it in a way that's truly empowering,” said Jiri Bakala, the director of the film.
Lucie Bakala, the producer of the documentary, added: “It was a new experience, as we had to learn to produce in a way that’s accessible to people with vision loss.
“AMI provided us with the training and tools to create what they refer to as Integrated Described Video – making audio accessible to individuals who are blind or partially sighted.”
