Habitat for Humanity Okanagan is having a bottle drive on Saturday

Habitat for Humanity Okanagan is hoping to raise $10,000 through their bottle drive on Saturday, May 27.

The ReStores in Kelowna and West Kelowna will be accepting refundable containers between 10 am and 2 pm in support of their Lake Country building project.

“Not only is it one of the easiest ways to help our environment, but the refundable containers you donate this Saturday can help give a hand up to another four local families and their children still waiting for their homes to be built,” explains Danielle Smith, the director of resource development.

Since September 2020, Habitat Okanagan has been raising funds and building homes for 12 local families to help them own an affordable and safe home in the Valley.

Habitat Okanagan’s bottle drive efforts have helped them raise over $165,000 in the past several years.

Some of their other fundraising efforts have included two unique golf experience raffles, 50/50 efforts at Warriors games and an annual photo contest for families and businesses who came together to build gingerbread houses.

The non-profit housing organization has set a goal of raising another $35,000 through their 2023 bottle drives in an effort to hit a total of $200,000.

Their January and early bring bottle drives have already surpassed $10,000 raised.

The refundable containers already donated have helped make it possible for eight families to move into their new homes in Lake Country.

Kelowna’s Habitat ReStore is located at 2092 Enterprise Way, and West Kelowna’s is at 1793 Ross Road.
