KGH’s 3rd COVID-19 outbreak now declared over

The COVID-19 outbreak on Unit 3E at Kelowna General Hospital has been declared over by Interior Health.

It was a relatively small outbreak compared to some that we’ve seen in British Columbia, as it lasted just 11 days.

While it only affected two patients and one staff member, one of those three people unfortunately passed away from their illness.

Susan Brown, president and CEO of IH, thanked the team at KGH for their efforts in containing this outbreak and urged people to get their COVID-19 shot.

“The best thing we can do to protect ourselves and our community against COVID-19 is to get vaccinated,” she said.

“If you haven’t received your first dose yet, I encourage you to visit one of our clinics today.”

Although restrictions are easing, the health authority is reminding everyone to continue being vigilant in following COVID-19 precautions like:

  • Stay home when you are sick and get tested if you have any symptoms consistent with COVID‑19.
  • Practise physical distancing and wash your hands often.
  • Wear a mask.
  • Register and get vaccinated.
