A 53-year-old Kelowna woman has been arrested after allegedly being caught trying to steal a catalytic converter from a car in Vernon.
Police said the woman, who is set to appear in court today, was already bound by conditions not to possess tools.
Vernon Mounties, however, said she was found by an officer at about 2:30 this morning with a saw and a catalytic converter that had been cut from a vehicle.
The officer had been conducting a “proactive patrol” in the 2400 block of 14th Avenue when the woman was allegedly spotted underneath the vehicle.
“The officer recognized something out of the ordinary and by trusting their instincts, and investigating it further, they were able to interrupt a crime and apprehend the person responsible,” said Cst. Chris Terleski.
“This is another example of great police work and how, through the proactive efforts of our officers, we are able to reduce this and other types of crime in our community.”
Police said they are continuing their investigation.
