Okanagan woman joins in celebrations as War Amps Key Tag Service marks 75th anniversary

A Lake Country woman is joining in with celebrations as the War Amps Key Tag Service marks 75 years of operation.

The service, launched in 1946, reunites people with their lost keys free of charge, with any donations going to help amputees across the country.

One of the people to have benefited from the donations is Kendra Blakely, a 24-year-old from Lake Country.

She was born a left arm amputee but was helped through the War Amps Child Amputee Program (CHAMP).

“The support I have received from the War Amps over the years has been so important,” said Blakely.

“They helped cover the cost of my artificial limbs so that I could be like any other child and take part in a variety of activities. I also attended seminars where I developed a positive approach to challenges.”

The Key Tag Service has helped return more than 1.5 million lost keys over the years.

It works by attaching a coded number to each key tag.

If you lose your keys, therefore, the finder can call the toll-free number on the back of the tag or place them in any mailbox in Canada for the War Amps to return them by courier free of charge.

“We’d like to thank the public for helping to make this service a success,” said spokesperson Rob Larman, himself a graduate of the CHAMP Program.

“Your support funds essential programs for children, veterans and all amputees across Canada.”

For more information, or to order key tags, visit waramps.ca or call toll-free 1 800 250-3030.
