Owner of injured hawk asked to contact authorities

A hawk believed to belong to a falconer in Kelowna’s Lower Mission neighbourhood has been rescued by the SORCO Raptor Rehab Centre.

The large bird is being cared for at the centre located in Penticton, but officials say the animal is in rough shape and its owner needs to be alerted as soon as possible.

It’s believed the falconer lets the bird out in the morning and calls it back in the evenings, which means the owner is likely unaware of its injuries.

“It’s sustained several injuries to the bottom of the talons and the bird is soaking wet from today’s rain so it’s in big time stress,” explained officer Karen Yuen.

“Unfortunately, only the bird's permit number is on its band but no phone number, so we're trying to track down the owner through the ministry but it's going to take a while.”

The owner of the hawk is asked to contact SORCO at 250-498-4251.
