Search for Gus the dog continues every day – 2 months after he went missing in West Kelowna

The search for a beloved family dog that went missing in West Kelowna more than two months ago is still ongoing.

Gus, a Great Pyrenees/Akbash cross, was last seen near his Upper Glenrosa home on March 4.

His owner, John Brooke, was walking Gus and his other dog through the snow when the pets got ahead of him.

He caught up with his other dog but Gus was never seen again.

“I saw tire tracks when I got up to where he’d been,” Brooke explained.

“I think he might have gotten into someone’s truck and, because he’s so friendly, he just went with them and they were happy to take him. He was such a beautiful dog – very rare.”

Brooke said he still rides his dirt bike in the area where Gus was last seen every day, and posts Facebook appeals every weekend.

“I’m blown away by it,” he added. “It’s tough. I think I took it the worst.”

John said his last lead came a few weeks ago, when he was told about someone tearing off flyers about Gus from a gas station window.

That, unfortunately, has not yet come to anything.

He said there is also a possibility that Gus’s microchip could help bring him home, but he admits it is a longshot.

His other worry is that Gus could have run off and been killed by either an animal or a human, but he remains doubtful of that theory.

“He was 150lbs – no coyote could take him down,” John said.

“Maybe a cougar could have, but that’s unheard of here.”

Right now, the search continues.
