It’s an exciting time to be a Kelowna resident, especially one who lives in the Mission, as work is underway to create a brand new lakefront park.
Site preparation for Pandosy Waterfront Park is underway with the demolition of seven houses at the foot of Cedar Avenue.
Crews will begin removing the debris from those demolished houses and selectively removing trees that are dangerous or unable to be maintained in the new design.
“Landscaping for the new park includes planting native shrubs and grasses that thrive in the Okanagan climate,” said Andrew Gibbs, project manager.
Gibbs added that site preparation is a major step toward construction, which is set to begin in September.
The first phase of work on Pandosy Waterfront Park will include an urban beach area, bench and picnic seating, a pedestrian promenade, access to Okanagan Lake and plenty more.

The sped up timeline for the highly-anticipated park is another reason to be excited, as it was originally slated to begin in 2025 or 2026.
Changes to the Parks Development Cost Charges meant that construction of phase one could be expedited, which is why it’s now scheduled to occur through 2021.
Residents are asked to keep their distance while housing and tree removal is underway.
