Spring sweeping and pothole repairs continue slowly

As the weather permits, the City of Kelowna continues with its spring cleaning.

Crews have been working for a few weeks now to sweep the city’s streets and fix a number of pothole issues, but rain and cold overnight temperatures has slowed things down a bit.

The long winter has also left twice the typical amount of sand on the roads, meaning sweepers have been forced to make additional passes on many roads.

Sweepers will continue to work 20 hours a day to clean Kelowna’s nearly 1,650 kilometres of roadways and bike lanes.

That work is anticipated to be completed by mid-May, weather permitting.

Residents can help move things along by moving vehicles and other items, like basketball hoops, off the road, and sweeping sand and debris from sidewalks into the gutters.

Pothole repairs also continue, but turnaround times have increased as the freeze-thaw patterns have created an above average number of potholes.

You can report potholes through the City of Kelowna website, but potholes on Hwy 97 and Hwy 33 need to be reported to DriveBC.
