VIDEO: Cannabis by the can, soon to be made right here

It will be an interesting curiosity for people trying out one from the string of craft breweries popping up in the new business space opening up along Clement Avenue, but you will not be able to stop in for a sip.

HYTN promises to be canning some of the finest drinkable cannabis out there.

Chief operating officer Jason Broome said creating a good cannabis beverage isn't easy.

"Most license holders in cannabis in Canada and around the world haven't done that exceptionally well," said Broome.

"From a carbonation perspective, from a flavour profile perspective, getting that formulation right is incredibly important."

After two years of refining the process, he said HYTN has got it right. "I'm confident that we have," said Broome.

HYTN beverages will come in a variety of flavours.

And the same company will be making gummies right next door on Clement Avenue.

Why Kelowna? The simple answer is because it's Broome's hometown.

Unlike the craft breweries which will be operating in the same complex, there will be no tasting room.

"We're using the space for its intended use which is manufacturing," he said. "So we're bringing 15 to 20 manufacturing jobs to Kelowna. It is not a consumer-facing, consumer-accessible space. It's a manufacturing facility."

In the future, however, who knows?

"I do think in time, with things like farm gate, that will extend to tasting rooms in licensed producers like ourselves. But right now, as governments should, they're taking a slow and cautious approach to cannabis rollout," said Broome.

Look for HYTN beverages to hit the shelves of cannabis stores sometime this summer.
