(UPDATE: Sept. 22 @ 10:05 am): The water quality advisory for some customers on the Sunset Ranch water system has been rescinded.
The Regional District of Central Okanagan explained: "Since the work was completed early Wednesday evening, the affected portion of the system has been completely flushed and test results indicate the system turbidity is within acceptable and safe Canadian guidelines for drinking water quality."
It added that between Sept. 16 and June 15, stage 1 restrictions will remain in place, allowing outdoor watering on alternating days.
Customers with even-numbered addresses may irrigate on even numbered calendar days while those with odd-numbered addresses may water outdoors on odd number days.
(Original story: Sept. 17 @ 7:05 am): The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) has issued a water quality advisory for some homes in Kelowna.
It affects customers of the Sunset Ranch water system.
Specifically, the following properties are affected:
Seminole Road
Escena Drive
Cimarron Drive
Riviera Drive
Torrey Pines Court
3378 – 3606 Pine Valley Drive
3606 – 3614 Sunset Ranch Drive
The advisory comes as a consequence of infrastructure work on Wednesday.
“RDCO Engineering Services crews will now flush the upper section to remove any impurities that may have entered the system during today’s work,” the regional district explained on Wednesday.
“As a precaution it’s recommended newborns, the elderly, those with weakened immune systems and anyone wishing additional protection in the affected area should boil all water intended for drinking, washing fruit and vegetables, making beverages, ice or brushing teeth for at least one minute.
“As a safe alternative to boiled water from the tap, affected customers may choose to use bottled or distilled water.”
