The City of Victoria announced it will be hosting a celebration to commemorate the opening of a brand-new skate and bike park at Topaz Park on Aug. 20.
The event will feature demonstrations by skate and bike professionals, games and prizes for attendees, food trucks, community information booths and even a live DJ.
“There is a lot of excitement and anticipation about this amazing new infrastructure,” said Mayor Lisa Helps in a press release Tuesday. “Recreational activities are critical for the health of our community and skate, scooter and bike features like these will help residents of all ages stay active. I invite everyone to join us to celebrate these new additions to Topaz Park together as a community.”
The new park area includes a 6,000 square metre bike park with an asphalt pump track and a 3,000 square metre all-wheels skate park with street and flow zones, and the largest skate bowl in Greater Victoria. The bike and skate parks also feature beginner and advanced areas for all skill levels.
The new facilities are part of a $10 million plan to improve amenities at Topaz Park, which includes the replacement and upgrades of the turf playing fields and ball diamonds, as well as the addition of pickleball courts in the near future.
