Following up on a 22-point performance in their inaugural home-opening loss a night earlier, Penticton’s Megan Admussen-Blair netted another 16 points on Saturday as the Okanagan College Coyotes defeated the visiting Capilano University Blues 71-58 in PACWEST women’s basketball play.

The lone victory in four OC basketball games on the weekend at Immaculata High School improved the Lady Coyotes’ record to 3-3 in their first season in the provincial college/university league.
Playing in front of an overflow crowd at Immaculata High School on Friday, the Coyotes dropped a 67-57 decision to the Douglas College Royals of New Westminster.
Meanwhile, the OC men were outmatched in their home opener on Friday, falling 112-70 to a hot-shooting Douglas College team, and came on the short end of a 126-117 decision to Capilano on Saturday to drop to 2-4 on the young season.
Admussen-Blair, a graduate of Princess Margaret Secondary School, netted a pair of three-pointers on the way to leading the Coyotes women on the scoresheet on Saturday against Capilano.
On the same court she starred while with the Immaculata Mustangs in high school, Nicole Hart added 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds against Capilano. Teammate Kasey Patchell, getting in 26 minutes off the bench, also hit double figures for the Coyotes, finishing with 10 points, six of which came from beyond the arc.
On Friday, the Coyotes stayed with Douglas most of the way, trailing by just three points (43-40) after three quarters, before being outscored 24-17 in the final 10 minutes.
Hart was the lone Coyote, besides Admussen-Blair, to reach double digits, scoring 10 points to go along with eight rebounds and a team-leading six steals. In all, eight OC players scored at least two points in a losing cause.
The OC men were overpowered in their opening game on Friday by a Douglas College team that scored 32 points in the first quarter and finished with a 52% shooting pace from the field overall en route to a lopsided win. The Coyotes shot at a 38% rate.
Darrian Valdes, a graduate of Sir Winston Churchill High School in Calgary, scored 22 points and brought down seven rebounds to take the spotlight for the Coyotes. Twelve of his points came on three-pointers.
The only other Coyote reaching double figures was Kelowna Secondary School product, Davide Ciancio, who hit for 15 points in his 27 minutes of work. The 5-foot-10 guard also led the team in rebounds with eight.
Ahead by eight points (92-84) after three quarters, the OC was outscored 42-25 in the final frame to fall to Capilano on Saturday afternoon.
Valdes again led the hosts with 22 points that included five treys. Jeff Tubbs, a Mt. Boucherie Bears grad, contributed 19 points while Hunter Hughes scored 16 to go along with 15 from Curtis Wilson and 13 from both Ciancio and Jesse Vissia.
The Coyotes and the PACWEST will take a game break until January, with OC playing its next home games Jan. 11 and 12 at Kelowna Secondary School against Columbia Bible College.
