Pacific FC resumes CPL play with home match against Atlético Ottawa this weekend

The Tridents are fresh off a 6-0 thumping of Kingston, Jamaica-based Waterhouse FC in the second leg of their CONCACAF League draw, which booked their ticket to the next round.

The club will hope to ride their momentum gained from their international success as they resume their Canadian Premier League play against Ottawa on Saturday.

PFC and Atlético have met two times this season, with each team earning a victory. Their first match ended in a close 1-0 victory for Pacific in early May, with Ottawa taking the second meeting 2-1 in June. This will be the first match between the teams on the Island this year, with both the first games taking place at TD Place in the nation’s capital.

Pacific enters the game riding a four-match win streak in CPL play which has allowed them to climb back near the top of the league table, currently sitting in second place with a 9-5-4 record.

The Tridents depth will be tested on Saturday, as they play their first match of the season without top goal scorer Alejandro Diaz, who was dealt to the Norway-based Sogndal Fotball in a record-setting transfer earlier this week. Diaz had scored a league-high 13 goals in 2022, and the team will need someone to step up to replace his production up-front.

Meanwhile, Ottawa comes into the weekend sitting in a tie with PFC with an identical 9-5-4 record. However, they have not been able to match Pacific's form of late, achieving just a single victory over their past five matches.

Kick-off for this weekend’s match is set for 2 pm on Saturday, Aug. 13 at Starlight Stadium in Langford.
