Three-way tie for first in Valley's AAA girls soccer

High-scoring Brooklyn Michalkow and Emily Metz led the Kelowna Owls to an 8-0 victory over the Penticton Lakers and lifted the winners into an early three-way tie for first place in Okanagan Valley senior AAA girls soccer play this week.

<who>Photo Credit: Lorne White/KelownaNow </who>Emily Metz scored three times in the Owls' lopsided win over the Penticton Lakers.Michalkow, also a member of the Kelowna United Junior Heat, scored four times and Metz, who signed on with Providence University College in Manitoba last month, added three goals in the lopsided affair at Kelowna Secondary School.

Patricia Humber rounded out the scoring for KSS while Olivia Kalashnikoff recorded the shutout.

The win improved the Owls’ record to 2-0 after they had opened the season with a 4-0 win over the Rutland Voodoos.

OKM defeated Rutland 4-1 on Monday, following up a 9-1 defeat of the Salmon Arm Jewels a week earlier. The MBSS Bears downed Salmon Arm 2-0 on Wednesday and shut out Penticton 2-0 in their season debut.

The winner of the Okanagan Valley league will earn a berth at the B.C. School Sports provincial championship tournament being held in Surrey May 30-June 1.
