Warriors edge out Vipers thanks to massive night from Johnny Derrick

The West Kelowna Warriors were in action Friday night, this time taking on the Vernon Vipers.

In a thrilling 3-2 game, West Kelowna came out on top thanks to a massive effort from goaltender Johnny Derrick. The netminder stopped 42 of 44 shots to help the Warriors sneak away with the win.

The first period was all Warriors as the team scored their three markers all in that frame. Damon Jugnauth scored just 39 seconds into the game to set the tone.

His goal was followed by two more from Riley Sharun and Tyler Cristall, which came just two minutes and 24 seconds apart from one another. Derrick made 14 stops in the frame.

In the second, the Vipers would cash in twice on the power play. Nicholas Kent and Tyler Carpendale were the goal scorers.

Vernon continued to dominate play in the third period, though they couldn't solve Derrick. West Kelowna would be outshot 44 to 23 en route to the win.

Up next, West Kelowna will take on the Salmon Arm Silverbacks at Kal-Tire Place this Sunday. Puck drop is at 6 pm.
