Young local curlers dominate provincial tournament for championship titles

Young curlers from the region had their claim to the curling sheet on Sunday after winning a 2019 BC U18 Provincial Curling Championship title in Victoria.

Tournament action began on Tuesday with a week’s worth of effort leading up to two riveting final matches for the two teams.

Team Colwell, comprised of Erik Colwell (Vernon), Mitchell Kopytko (Kamloops), Ben Morin (Vernon), and Tyler Powell (Invermere), were matched up with Canada Winter Games gold medal winners, Team Sato.

Despite their fresh gold medal-momentum, Team Colwell was able to topple the national champions and claim a 9-4 win.

Team Buchy also entered into the final rounds of curling, dominating the women’s finals with a 10-2 win over Team Taylor in just six ends.

Team Buchy saw Kaila Buchy (Kimberley), Arissa Toffolo (Kimberley), Katelyn McGillivray (Kelowna), and Hannah Lindner (Fort St. John) take to the ice sheet to claim their win.
