VIDEO: Global Music Fest set to return next weekend

Since as long as we can remember, music and activism have gone hand in hand. One local music festival is bringing the pair together again in the name of global sustainability.

The Global Music Festival is a one evening affair set to take place on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Creekside Theatre in Lake Country.

A fun way to connect the community and foster change, the festival comes as part of a month-long initiative that focuses on helping promote the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, through a variety of events hosted by Global Citizen Events.

Backed by partial funding from the Government of Canada and the Municipality of Lake Country, the event offers attendees a night of music, courtesy of Edmonton musician Cristian De La Luna along with two local acts.

“It [sustainability] may not be necessarily heard on mainstream radio every day, but there are a lot of artists who are doing that because these things are important to us,” said Karma Lacoff, an organizer of the festival.

In addition to a night of music, attendees can expect various activities in the foyer centered around the different goals, as well as yoga, delicious food and impactful storytelling.

People think “What can I do?” “What can really I do to make an impact?” So, this is a way to kind of see in the community who else is interested in this, and what are we doing?” added Lacoff.

Tickets to the event are available online now through Kelowna Tickets.
