A supposed grizzly bear sighting near Summerland is not a cause for concern because it is probably just a black bear, a conservation officer has said.
The sighting was logged on the Wildlife Alert Reporting Program on Saturday at 8.38 a.m.
It was spotted in Trout Creek, south of Williams Avenue and just by the lake.
But B.C. conservation officer Chris Doyle told NowMedia it was not a “confident sighting” and said there was “no cause for concern at this time”.
“There was a cinnamon-coloured black bear in that area, and the person who reported it probably thought it resembled a grizzly,” he explained.
“But people should be mindful there is a black bear in the area and make sure to dispose of garbage and other attractants properly.”
