Okanagan ski resort’s 1 km forest skating loop is the perfect winter adventure

We’re into the final month of 2022 and the ski season has arrived in full force.

Resorts around the province are seeing some big dumps of snow with the recent wintery weather.

That means plenty of British Columbians are gearing up for days on the slopes, but one Okanagan ski resort has another cool option for a great winter adventure.

Apex Mountain Resort, located just west of Penticton, has a one-kilometre-long Adventure Skating Loop that certainly ups the ante for outdoor skating in the province.

Rather than just a standard outside rink that many resorts have, this one is a little different.

It’s a full loop through the forest, which means you can enjoy the beautiful snow-capped trees and a peaceful escape into nature while gliding around to your heart’s content.

“The silence of the forest imparts that winter quiet that only happens in a snowy landscape,” explains the Apex website.

“The experience at night is nothing short of magic, as the lights come on and the winter landscape unfolds around you.”

It’s all maintained by a Zamboni as well, which means you can expect great skating conditions most of the time, but sometimes Mother Nature has something to say about that with heavy snowfall.

Apex's Adventure Skating Loop will be available for use every day between 9 am and 11 pm.

The cost is $5 plus GST and you can either bring your own skates or get rentals for an extra $5.

Rentals are available between 8:30 am and 4 pm from Sunday to Monday and between 8:30 am and 9 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
