Police watchdog investigating after man claims he was seriously injured during an arrest in Vernon

The police watchdog has opened an investigation into an incident in Vernon.

In a brief release, the Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) said a man had reported being seriously hurt during an arrest.

The arrest is said to have occurred on June 30 at about 2:40 pm near an office in the 2800 block of 28 St.

“The affected person reported that he sustained serious injuries while being taken into custody,” the IIO explained.

The IIO was told about the incident on July 2 and has now opened an investigation.

Anyone with relevant information about the incident is asked to contact the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the form on the iiobc.ca website.

The IIO investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
