South Okanagan police warn of phone scam targeting locals

Local South Okanagan residents may be the target of a telemarketing scam, according to Osoyoos RCMP, which claims to be fundraising for a high school program.

The School District 53 contacted police when they head that an individual had been making phone calls to local residents asking for donations for the Osoyoos High School Healthy Kids Program.

"School administrators confirmed they are not actively seeking donations for this program, and that it was a scam," said Cst. James Grandy.

Police have determined that the number used to solicit to local residents for this fraudulent fundraising is also associated to several other different scams.

RCMP are warning the public to be wary of anyone calling to ask for donations, and to be careful when considering providing payment.
