VIDEO: Okanagan burger joint releases footage of alleged safe stealing thief

Burger 55 in Penticton has publicly released footage of an alleged break-in on Monday night.

According to co-owner Ronald Bee, the thief had a key to the business and used it to steal a safe containing the staff’s tips.

Bee estimates the safe was holding more than $1,500 in cash and says the robbery occurred at about 2:30 a.m. in the morning.

The owner believes the thief was familiar with the business and knew where the safe was allowing the robbery to be executed quickly.

Bee recently purchased the burger joint with his wife Sheela with the goal of upholding the restaurant's "You Gotta Eat Here" reputation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Penticton RCMP.

Hey hey burger fans! This is a post you must read... As some of you may know burger55 has been for sale and is going through a transition at the moment. I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce to all of you, Ronald and Sheela Bee, whom will be taking over the reins of burger55. Ron and Sheela reside in West Kelowna and have two young children. Ron has been a chef for 25+ years and has been eagerly and patiently waiting to get behind the counter to serve and cook for everyone. I am excited for Ron and Sheela to take over as I continue on to my next venture in life. I wish them many years of success for burger55. Personally I would like to take this opportunity to thank the City of Penticton, the residents, and of course all the burger55 fans and supporters. Without all of you the business could not have been a success. I have a bucket of mixed emotions moving on from the business. There have been SO many ups and downs that most of you have been there to see and experience. I am happy to be moving on and comfortable leaving the business in the hands of a couple eager to keep this business alive. I am also saddened as there are so many memories, blood, sweat, and tears that have gone into this business. Some of you have been lucky enough to remember the beginnings in “the shack” and all of the people who thought we were crazy enough to put a burger joint in there. I am PROUD of what I have done with burger55 and that it has now become a Penticton staple and a “You Gotta Eat Here” place when visiting the Okanagan. Hopefully there will be many more years to come and people that will be able to experience burger55! Ron and Sheela will be taking over officially on May 1st. That being said we will be closed Sunday the 29th and Monday the 30th so that they can prepare their re-opening! My official last day with the business will be this Saturday the 28th so please come by if you’d like so I can say good-bye to ya! Thanks again everyone as this has been quite the life experience for 8+ years. I’m going to miss it… 🍔🤙❤️
