Woman arrested and charged following murder of Okanagan resident

A woman has been arrested in relation to a homicide that took place at a home near Round Lake in the North Okanagan last week.

According to the Southeast District Major Crime Unit, 59-year-old Lynda Saundry has been charged with first-degree murder of 55-year-old Barry Jones. She was remanded into custody and made her first court appearance at the Vernon Law Courts this morning.

Police found the remains of Jones on Thursday just after 9:30 am along Emery Louis Road. The BC Coroners Service is still looking into how the individual died.

"The investigation has progressed to a point where the BC Prosecution Service has approved a charge of first-degree murder against Ms. Saundry," said Supt. Sanjaya Wijayakoon. "The accused and the victim were known to one another and our major crime investigators are now focussing on preparing for the judicial process."

North Okanagan RCMP continues to support the Jones family as well as the community following the death. Anyone with additional information on this case is urged to contact Major Crimes at 1-877-987-8477.
