New Netflix series boasts strong Kelowna ties

One of the world’s top animation companies also happens to have an office in downtown Kelowna.

Bardel Entertainment Inc., which recently won an Emmy for its work on the popular series Rick and Morty, has a new series set to premiere today on Netflix.

Joining Netflix’s abundance of great animated content, The Dragon Prince follows two human princes embarking on an unlikely quest to bring peace to their warring worlds.

A portion of the show’s artwork was created in Bardel Entertainment Kelowna office, where artists collaborate with the Bardel's other offices to create the stunning visuals present throughout each episode.

“Bardel’s success has always come from pushing innovation and breaking new ground in animation,” said Tina Chow, VP of Development and Production of Bardel Entertainment Inc.

“Partnering with Wonderstorm is a perfect marriage. They had an expansive vision for this project with big expectations, and we were happy to go down that creative path with them.”

According to creators, Bardel’s extensive work in 2D animation set the framework for the visually stunning 3D CG animated show with 2D traditional hand-drawn backgrounds.

“The great artists and animators at Bardel got our ambitious vision for this series, and have consistently risen to the challenge,” said Aaron Ehasz, co-creator of The Dragon Prince and CEO of Wonderstorm.

“From the first animation test to the finished episodes, they have been great partners in helping us visually tell the story we wanted to share.”

A leading animation studio in North America for over 30 years, Bardel has over 500 employees between its two state-of-the-art studios located in Vancouver and Kelowna.
